Bruce Sowalski
Dear Friend and Supporter
of The Food Pantries for the Capital District
It is with great sorrow that we share the sad news that our longtime board member, former board president, and dear friend Bruce Sowalski passed away on April 2 after a hard-fought battle with COVID-19.
Bruce was a champion of The Food Pantries for many years and our staff, our board and our volunteers benefited greatly from his vision, his guidance and his support, all of which he shared so generously. He had a big, caring heart and he was always eager to help us, and so many other organizations, in any way he could.
Bruce’s involvement with The Food Pantries was deep. He joined the board in 2011 and served as president, secretary, and member of the Executive Committee during that time. He also chaired the Personnel and Building Committees and was a member of the Finance and Harvest Committees. In 2018, we honored Bruce with the Sister Mary Coons Award for his unwavering dedication to The Food Pantries and the people we serve.
According to his family, a memorial service and celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at a future date. They have asked that donations in his memory be made to The Food Pantries, and we are very grateful for that.
We have lost one of our greatest supporters but, more importantly, we have lost a dear and kindhearted friend, one who often brought us such joy and laughter. He was taken from us far too early.
Everyone at The Food Pantries mourns his passing and we extend our sincere condolences to his wife and family.
